Every grade is calculated from eight independently scored factors. Each factor reflects a different dimension of how a company treats your personal data. Scores are reviewed and updated on a 3–4 week cycle.
What types of data are collected? Biometrics, health data, and financial records score lowest; basic account info scores highest.
Does the company sell or share personal data with third parties for advertising or commercial gain? A clear "No" earns the highest score.
What rights does the company claim over content you post? Broad, royalty-free, sublicensable licenses score poorly.
How easy is it to delete your account and have your data removed? One-click deletion with timely confirmation scores best.
Does the ToS require mandatory arbitration, waiving your right to a class-action lawsuit? Absence of such clauses scores highest.
Is the policy written in plain, accessible language? Short, clearly structured policies with a plain-language summary score best.
How does the company notify users when the ToS changes? Direct email with advance notice and opt-out scores highest.
Can you export your data in a standard, machine-readable format (CSV, JSON)? Easy export with complete data scores best.
